Does your roof need lead flashing?
Most people don’t realise that lead flashing is just as important to the roof as the slates and tiles themselves. Primarily designed to keep out rain water, it weatherproofs the corners, edges and valleys of your roof, keeping you safe and dry inside.
You will find lead flashing all over the roof, from the chimney stack, box gutter, valleys, and any abutment on your roof (which just basically means any time a slant meets a wall).
There are alternatives to lead such as zinc or aluminium, but our view from many years of roofing experience, is that lead is the best material for flashing. It’s malleable, durable, you can weld to it and it looks better. There are also different types and grades of lead flashing, relating to the different weights and thicknesses of lead, which are used for different areas around the roof. Our expert roofers will know what grade to use, where.
How does it work?
If we are fitting or repairing your roof, or you think you need new lead flashing, we will come out and conduct a proper examination of your roof and give you the right expert advice. Any recommendations we make will be explained in a clear, comprehensive quotation.
It’s important to correctly treat the lead with the right type of oils which will stop the colour running out of it and prevent staining the slates or tiles. Application of this oil will also help in prolonging the lead, so we’ll ensure this happens, making the work last for as long as possible.
